Vallance showed her 50-piece debut collection in Paris at a showroom favoured by Middle Eastern buyers and bagged, with almost unseemly haste, not one but two Harvey Nichols accounts – in Riyadh and Kuwait. Three years later she had garnered enough credibility to show at New York Fashion Week and, in 2016, she was picked up by Net-a-Porter and German online retail giant mytheresa.com. When we meet, she’s preparing to rubber-stamp lucrative deals with Selfridges in London and Lane Crawford in Hong Kong.
Seven years after that first outing in Paris, the UK has become Vallance’s biggest market; next up is the Middle East, then Australia and, finally, the US. But it’s here, not surprisingly, that the bricks-and-mortar witnesses to her burgeoning success story stand: in May 2016, shortly before her first appearance at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, she opened her flagship store in Sydney’s Mosman; a second, beautifully minimalist retail space in Armadale, Melbourne followed in August last year; and, last month, she snipped the ribbon across the doors to her third in the Strand Arcade on Sydney’s newly revamped George Street.
